The Bachelor

Long before reality TV popularised the single, “on the lookout” male, birds have been creating their vary own den to entice a partner.

One really interesting example of this native to the east coast of Australia is the Bower Bird.  He carefully creates a nest not in which to rear its chicks, but literally just a place to lure and seduce the female of his dreams.  Filled with blue “treasures”, this nest can accumulate anything from pegs and bottle tops to the a coast online sapphire ring!

Mat Robertson has played up on this theme with his installation artwork titled The Bachelors Pad, which is a human sized version filled with blue treasures any modern man would want in his love nest.
