Art is subjective, and means something different to each different observer. The artists themselves had various views on what Eden Unearthed meant from “Unearthing talent in the Eden Gardens – an organic celebration of art and gardening”, “Discovering new meanings in the beauty of the gardens” to “Highlight hidden beauty of the natural environment and “what lies beneath the idyllic garden”.
The image above shows kids interacting with Maya Hendler’s work A is for Apple, which is designed so you can leave secret messages for each other
1 : Paradise
2 : the garden where according to the account in Genesis Adam and Eve first lived
3 : a place of pristine or abundant natural beauty
1 : to dig up out of or as if out of the earth
2 : to make known or public: bring to light
But the back story is always interesting and reading the catalogue is a great place to see the artistic intent. And the meaning behind the catalogue is even more important, as we’re donating the proceeds to Father Chris Riley’s Youth Off The Streets, so happily spend $7 knowing its going to a great cause.
